Shell Albian Sands Muskeg River Mine
Provided commissioning & start-up operations support in the Utilities & Off-site group. High level activities included developing commissioning and operation procedures and executing field and control room C&SU activities in the new Cogen, Water Treatment and Services Distribution Areas.
Syncrude Upgrader Expansion #1 (UE1)
Provided commissioning & start-up operations support in the Utilities / Off-site & Tie Point Execution groups. High level activities included developing pre-commissioning, commissioning & start-up procedures and executing the field activities in the new Water Treatment, BFW Handling, Process H2O Transfer & Coker Off-Gas Boilers / Steam Turbine Generator areas for the Utilities and Off-site group. Acted as the interface between the prime contractor and the operating plant on the planning and execution of various hot and cold taps across the site.
Petro-Canada Edmonton Refinery Conversion
Installing Copper and Stainless Steel heat tracing, performed pneumatic testing on tracing loops, and mentoring apprentices through AMP (Apprenticeship Mentor Program)
Shell Albian Sands Jackpine Mine and MRM Expansion
Provided team leadership in the planning and execution of Shell's Clean-Piping quality assurance program.
Shell Scotford Upgrader Expansion
Acted as the Competency Lead for the Atmospheric and Vacuum units. Project Lead for the development of 4 high fidelity training simulations for the major process units. The duties around the simulator development include model validation and model development with, creation of the factory acceptance test procedures and performing / participation in factory and site acceptance of the 4 simulators.
Shell Albian Research and Development Pilot Projects
Provided vendor support, construction interface, commissioning & start-up, and operations leadership for the Hydro-cyclone Pilot Plant and its associated flotation technology trials.
Suncor Firebag Stages 1, 2, 3, 4 (SAGD); and Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU)
Acted as a multi-disciplined commissioning & start-up team thru the various phases of the project. High level activities included the execution and leadership of various sized portions of the different phases including controls, instrumentation, electrical, piping, mechanical and operations disciplines. We also acted as the key interface with the Major Projects group and the Prime Contractor.
Athabasca Oil Dover and MacKay West (SAGD)
Acted as a Controls and Instrumentation Lead for Client during DBM, evaluating and recommending control system and instrument selection, assisting in developing project standards, providing design direction to Engineering Contractors.
Suncor Voyageur Upgrader (Joint Venture)
Developed a sub-system scoping guideline (how to) document for the now shelved project encompassing all process, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC and building systems.
Imperial Oil Kearl Initial Development
Acted in a commissioning lead role in the Primary Extraction Silo on the project. High level duties included providing leadership and stewarding the planning and execution of all instrumentation, electrical, mechanical and process activities. Also acted as the key interface between the Start-up and Major Projects / Prime Contractor groups.
Athabasca Oil Hanging Stone (SAGD) —Active
Initially supplied a Controls and Instrumentation Lead for Client during EDS, assisting in developing project standards, providing design direction to Engineering Contractors, develop procedures and develop manpower plan and schedule for CSU. Designed and execute hardware interface testing for DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP and support DCS configuration build and testing. Sponsored and supported utilization of Continuum Edge commissioning software and hardware package. As the project progressed, brought in additional resources to drive the DCS commissioning activities, including FAT & SAT testing and to help provide guidance / training to the Mechanical team during Turnover & Pre-Commissioning activities.
Suncor Fort Hills Mine (Joint Venture) —Active
Providing support in commission & start-up coordination roles in the Utilities / Off-site and Froth Treatment areas of the project. High level activities involve working with the engineering house and major projects group to help develop the various Gate 3/4/5 documents required. This includes delineated scoping of the Electrical sub-systems, developing the various C&SU processes and detailed planning of the C&SU activities so the Initial Commissioning Packages can be developed.
Imperial Oil Kearl Expansion Project
Provided Area Commissioning Lead expertise in the Primary Extraction, Tank Farm & Interconnecting Piperack areas of the project, including the execution of all project Brownfield Tie points. High level duties included providing leadership and stewarding the execution planning of all instrumentation, electrical, mechanical and process activities. Also acted as the key interface between the Start-up and Major Projects / Prime Contractor groups during this phase.
Suncor Firebag Turnaround, Maintenance & Site Wide Service Support —Active
Acting in various roles across the site. High level activities include supporting the maintenance department with instrumentation and electrical support across the site. Supporting the Site Wide Services department with leadership execution on various projects across the site and with procedure development. Also providing future turnaround planning and execution coordination support.
SMT Learning for Shell LNG, Training & Development Knowledge Capture
This activity involved Stonehaven conducting knowledge capture in collaboration with SMT’s client Shell Canada to provide the basis for training material creation. This involved identifying all the questions and/or objectives that relate to the operations and maintenance of the Shell Jumping Pound LNG processing facility that was being constructed.
Vale Long Harbour Nickel Processing Refinery
Utilized previous Commissioning Leadership expertise to drive development of area specific process for prioritizing, distributing and tracking punch-list items across Refinery and Neutralization Areas. Process was to be adopted across site during future phases of construction. Also worked with Neutralization team to develop visual tracking tools of weekly work progress, goals and status related to subsystem commissioning, completing punches and coordinating vendors. Once implemented, the team consistently beat weekly work plan and are on progress to complete all area commissioning ahead of plan schedule.
